Shogun was at the top of samurai warriors. The title, shogun, was given by the emperor.

The term shogun started to be used commonly at the time feudal government called Bakufu was established.
First Baku was established in 1192, by Minamoto no Yoritomo. His site was in Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture, so it is called "Kamakura Bakufu". This is why Kamakura is rich in historical monuments, such as Great Buddha Image in Kotoku-in. (UNESCO, World Heritage Sites.)
Great Buddha is bronze statue and it is said its completion is in 1252.

Bakufu controlled Japan for around 700 years from 1192 to 1867.

It is believed emperor of Japan has direct lineage from the Sun Goddess, Ameterasu, of Japanese Mythology.
Current emperor is  124th emperor  and his birthday is December 23, 1933.  His Name is Akihito.

Japanese people never call him with his actual name, we  refer to the him as "Ten-no" (Kind of Heaven).
