Cherry Blossom Forecast 2019

On February 7, the Japan Weather Association published its first cherry blossom forecast of the season. According to the forecast, the cherry blossoms are expected to generally open a little earlier than average this year. In Tokyo, they are predicted to open on March 22 and in Kyoto on March 31.

Hundreds of cherry trees decorate the moats of former Edo Castle around Kitanomaru Park, creating one of Tokyo's most outstanding cherry blossom sights. Boats are available for rent, but picnics are not allowed.

Trees are lit up in the evenings. Many food stands can be found at nearby Yasukuni Shrine where another thousand cherry trees are planted.
